Why the Impact of Palm Oil Matters

Why the Impact of Palm Oil Matters

Go ahead, celebrate Earth Month with our indulgent and planet-conscious treats!

Ah, Spring! The sun is shining, the flowers are in bloom, and the heavy winter jacket you’ve been wearing all season is finally returning to the back of the closet. Nature is at its most beautiful this time of year, making April the perfect month to celebrate Earth Day.

Celebrated by billions of people across the globe, Earth Day (and the weeks leading up to it) is all about raising environmental awareness and making sustainable changes. We all want to do our part to make the world a better place, but it can be difficult when we aren’t aware of the everyday products that may be damaging our environment. One of the most surprising of these products is found in everything from lipstick to chocolate to detergent to pizza dough. You guessed it— palm oil.

Why Palm Oil Matters

Palm oil is the most commonly produced vegetable oil, sourced from the fruit and seeds of the oil palm tree. In fact, palm oil is so commonly used in the food industry that it’s found in half of all supermarket products.

Palm Tree Forest
Palm oil itself isn’t bad for the environment, but most palm oil is unethically sourced. This has a major impact on our environment— both forests and human settlements have been cleared out to make room for massive palm oil plantations. Not only does this deforestation leave our planet more vulnerable to rising CO2 levels, but it also contributes to pollution and leaves animals like orangutans without a home.

Responsibly Sourced Palm Oil

The good news is that products that use RSPO (Responsibly Sourced Palm Oil) are becoming more and more popular. Most Belgian Boys products don’t use palm oil at all, but those that do use only RSPO. So go ahead, celebrate Earth Month with our indulgent and planet-conscious treats!

Belgian Boys French Toast with Various Sweet and Savory Toppings
Love the taste of homemade, fresh-off the skillet French toast in the mornings but hate having to get up early to crack eggs and soak stale bread? With the Belgian Boy’s Brioche French Toast, you just have to pop a few slices in the toaster and let your house fill with the smell of fluffy, golden, perfectly cooked French toast. Made without the use of palm oil, our Brioche French Toast tastes great alone or topped with berries, syrup, or hazelnut spread.

All of Belgian Boy’s cookies are made without palm oil. Our signature Dutch Caramel Stroopwafels are a must-have for holiday, made by sandwiching an irresistible layer of ooey, gooey caramel between two crispy waffle cookies. Try placing on top of your morning coffee cup to get a delicious, melted caramel effect.
